I've been collecting buttons for years, and currently I have two large tins full of them. But isn't it funny how rare it is to find just the right ones when you need something a bit special? Almost as bad as having nothing to wear, even though you have a full wardrobe ... I had this problem when I was looking for some buttons for one of my own creations recently - and I couldn't find any that were just right, until I realised I could make them myself from polymer clay! I thought about all the advantages: they're all slightly different with a proper hand-crafted look and feel, and they're hand or machine washable as well. They'll even go in the tumble dryer on a low setting, although dry-cleaning is not to be advised. And then of course, I thought about other knitters, and I wondered if maybe they might be interested in having buttons that were a little out of the ordinary as well...
